Every Hero Has a Story! Children's Summer Reading 2015

Join us for another exciting year of Children's Summer Reading! Registration begins June 29 for children entering grades K-12 residing in the North Rockland School District. Enjoy reading books, making crafts, playing games, and watching exciting shows while winning stickers and prizes every week! Drop by the Children's Reference Desk for more information. Don't miss the fun!

Summer Reading Weekly Shows

All weekly shows take place in the Village Branch on Wednesdays at 4 pm and at the Main Library on Wednesdays at 7 pm. Tickets can be used at any show at either building.

July 22 - Meet the Minions (Village) or Sciencetellers (Main)
July 29 - Superhero Training Academy
August 5 - Heroes, Magic and Books

Summer Reading Special Programs

Programs take place Thursdays at 4 pm at the Village Branch and 7 pm at the Main Library in Garnerville. Only Summer Reading Club members will be admitted to programs, and registration is required.

Read to Me Club!

For our NRCSD residents too young to join our Summer Reading Club, join our Read to Me Club at the Main Library! Earn stickers, enjoy crafts and our fun fair every week. Earn stickers for the books you read at home or in Storytime! Weekly crafts are on Fridays at 11:30 am with registration open one week prior to each event. Drop by the Youth Services desk today! Registration is now open.

Wednesday, August 26, 6:30 pm
Bionicle has captivated the minds of young and old alike, but its roots go baack further than the modern era. Join Evan Eagle as he uncovers the legend that is the Bionicle franchise, from its beginnings in 2001 right up to its reboot in 2015. No registration required.

Make Homemade Cinnamon Rolls with Miss Kathy

Monday, July 6, 6 pm
For ages 8-12. Registration is now open for Haverstraw Library cardholders and July 2 for everyone else. MEasure, mix, knead, and shape everything yourself. Add cinnamon, then bake at home!

Music Appreciation with Mr. Burr

Limited registration begins July 1 for Haverstraw Library cardholders and July 13 for everyone else.

Thursdays, July 16 - August 20, 10:15 am for ages 0 - 18 months
Mr. Burr will sing songs and play his guitar or keyboard as the children crawl about, watching, listening, and discovering each other. Mr. Burr brings many props, designed to stimulate the children and inspire them to reach out and learn. This class is designed to develop children's perceptual motor skills and socialization skills as they enjoy the magic of music.

Thursdays, July 16 - August 20, 10:45 am OR 11:15 am for ages 18-36 months
Mr. Burr will use music, fun, and laughter to develop children's perceptual motor skills and socialization skills. As the children see each other, they are motivated to stand up and join in the fun of jumping and marching and laughing as Mr. Burr sings. Children are encouraged to reach out and play with the many props Mr. Burr brings each week.

PAWS for Reading: R.E.A.D. to a Dog

Saturdays, July 18 and August 8, 10:30 am - 12 pm

Preschool Yoga with Sue

Mondays, July 20 - August 10, 5:45 pm
For ages 4-5 years without an adult. Registration opens July 6 for Haverstraw Library cardholders only. This playful class will move your child's body and enhance their imagination. Simple yoga poses will be incorporated into games, music, stories, and art. Increased body awareness, attention span, energy release, and relaxation are just some of the benefits of this FUN class!

Toddler Yoga with Miss Sue

Mondays, July 20 - August 10, 5 pm
For walkers up to age 3 with an adult. Registration begins July 6 for Haverstraw Library card holders only. This creative approach will stimulate your child's imagination while enhancing sensory and motor development. Simple yoga poses will be introduced and combined with stories, music, and props. Come stretch, strenghten, and relax while bonding with your toddler in a unique way!

Read Comics Online at the Library for Free!

Come and read over 100 comic books at the Library using Comics Plus: Library Edition! Featuring top publishers and creators such as Archie Comics, IDW Publishing, Dynamite Entertainment, Image Comics, Red 5 Comics and more.
