On Your Mark, Get Set... Read! Children's Summer Reading 2016

Congratulations to the 458 children who read 3,310 books this summer! We at HKDPL are proud of your reading accomplishments! For those children who logged this summer, please come in to retrieve your reading log and receive a tote bag by October 1. Keep up the momentum this summer and ask a librarian for more suggestions on good reads. Don't forget to sign up for our upcoming programs!

Fiesta Latina

Saturday, October 15, 3 pm @ Village Branch
Families welcome! Celebrate Hispanic culture with songs, food, music, crafts, and more from Latin American countries. Registration begins October 1 for HKDPL members only.

Literacy through Photography

Mondays, September 12, 19 & 26 and October 10, 17 & 24, 5:30 pm @ Village Branch
Student Artists' Reception: Saturday, October 29, 2 pm - 4 pm @ Village Branch
Children will be encouraged to express themselves by taking pictures and writing descriptive stories. Basic photo skills will be taught. Cameras will be provided. For children in grades 3-5. Registration is now open for everyone.

Monster Hunt

Monday, October 31, 6 pm @ Main Library
For ages 7-14. KIDS crave adventure - and they have one in the MONSTER HUNT, where they find and capture a lurking monster! 7-14 year olds track down books containing hidden clues that will lead to the monsters secret lair. All participants have their own clues and proceed at their own pace, so everyone succeeds and everyone is rewarded with their very own monster detective badge! Registration begins October 10 for everyone.

School Secrets Series: Study Tips to Ace Your Test

Thursdays, October 13, 20 & 27, 4:30 pm @ Main Library
For grades 4-5. Students will have fun experimenting with study techniques and test taking practices. Learn homework habits to help you succeed! Each week in this 3 week session will build upon what we learn in the previous week. Registration for these programs begin October 1 for everyone.

Come try out our new iPads and touch screen computers, loaded with educational games and programs specifically designed for toddlers and young children! We even have bilingual games and programs!

Comics Plus Library Edition

Read Comics Online at the Library for Free!

Come and read over 100 comic books at the Library using Comics Plus: Library Edition! Featuring top publishers and creators such as Archie Comics, IDW Publishing, Dynamite Entertainment, Image Comics, Red 5 Comics and more.

Start off by creating an account. Enter your email address and a password. Once logged in, you may browse the library, select a publisher or search for titles, and check out comics you want to read. Checked out titles will appear in your shelf which will be available for you to read for seven days. Expired comics will automatically check themselves in and you may borrow more comics afterwards.
